Forum: GratefulDead Subject: what happened to the thread?

hi, I replied to a post on the thread this morning, then a few minutes ago I went to look - the entire thread has been removed?

Can anyone tell me what happened? my post was not inflammatory in the slightest.

Thank you, stretchy

Not certain, but there were some inflammatory comments below it... Anywho, thanks for the rec - I listened to some Max Creek today, and it was great stuff.

It is unusual in that when a post has a reply the delete post option is disabled when editing. My own insecurities led me to delete my original reply to you, and I apologize. The rest of the thread is still out there in the ether, but as the parent post was removed it doesn’t show on the big board. Anyhow, I also thank you for those previous Creek links, two of which I had the pleasure of attending (StrangeCreek)

Dan - the original poster is a known troublemaker who fell foul of the admins under a previous incarnation. Jeff Kaplan asked him politely to stop repeatedly advertising his blog in forum posts and was met by the sort of abusive response that would get you a bloody nose in most bars. The not surprising result was that his every post was removed from the forums. So it looks like he is very much not welcome here and they've deleted him again. I might be wrong - but that's how it seems to me.

exactly.

why the hell we as a group haven't also been removed is beyond me

perhaps it is our exemplary typing skills and literary referenes

or maybe because there are so many other turd burglars out there who are infinitely more hostile

The difference is that we are unfailingly polite and respectful to the people who run the Archive because we realise that without them we wouldn't have this Asshole Adventure Playground to roam around in.

Actually I think the Archive is secretly financed by our long suffering other halves who would have to spend more time dealing with us directly if we weren't busy harmlessly venting in here.

Your finance theory has some substantial merit. As much as she complains about the amount of time this "pointless and repetitive hobby" takes up, I have a strong feeling she knows that if I were to suddenly take up as much of her time as I spend here (and involved in associated activities) her tune would change abruptly. If I can say I hate to love this place, she could just as easily say she loves to hate it. I think there's a middle ground in there somewhere.

It does suggest however, that our coffee-klatch is being watched pretty closely... that poster (judge judy) was only around for about 2-3 hours before being pulled.

I don't think we're watched that closely - the admins are on record as saying that they pretty much leave us to police ourselves and generally keep out of the monkey house. Judy wasn't a first offender and was brainless enough to try to get back in with a user name that was scarcely different from the one that got banned.

Ah, so.

I haven't said hello in a bit. I hope you are well and most things are sound. Scotland, et al, must be all a twitter. Just two matches away...

The grumpy young bastard is playing surprisingly well is he not? The sets three and four 6-0, 6-0 demolition of Gimeno-Traver in the first round was frankly awesome. Ljubicic was a test but he passed it pretty well, I'd say. Rafa, of course, is a whole different dish of paella, one that's been apt to make Mr Murray choke. But we shall see. I'm backing Tsonga to beat Djokovic.

As for me, I'm living through uncertain times but trying to take positive steps to some kind of resolution. Thanks for asking - it's appreciated as always. Hope life is being good to you and yours.

I have one of those for the women's matches - aka the mute button on the remote. Sounds like a porn movie sample loop otherwise.

Oh yeah - hi NC!

okay, thank you, that makes sense, it was mystifying to me.

In my opinion Creek was one of those bands that should have been larger than it was - they certainly can carry the groove.

one of the things I liked is that when they covered songs, they made it their own, they did not play it like another band would play it...

Looks like folks clarified matters for ya; what's a real pisser (well, I suppose only if you care about the 15 seconds it takes to find out) is when you following thru on a "email notification of a response" to a post only to find multiple posts have been removed...what were they saying? Was it all that bad? Why does this happen to me more than anyone else at the Forum? Is it the curse of 10000 posts come back to haunt me?

Sorry, lost it there for a moment. Flashback.

I am thinking you aren’t specifically addressing just me, but I am sure that my past deleted replies to your posts weren’t unkind – many times I am uncomfortable or embarrassed with what I have written. We’ve been over this before. Therapy continued...
Point taken about email alerts. I’ll take this opportunity to offer my regrets all around, and thank-you Rob.

Absolutely not, D; just blathering out loud, er on the kybd, per usual...I find it amusing that they are "gone", and to be truthful, I've done it myself for various reasons, so I'd never really hold it against anyone.

v, it's good.
Maybe there is a slight chance you may have a high editing response. I like what you have to say. Read it most every time. I even read stuff that you later edited/deleted. It's O.K. Maybe let it ride and take a furrow off your brow? I know. It's none of my business, ect., ect. Anyways for what it's worth.

My guess would be string theory... perhaps a 3D brain encapsulating subatomic vibrating bison elements in the 4th dimension?

Or maybe user error....

It's Turkish string theory. You better read up.
